Wedding Entertainment
You will likely want to have entertainment of some sort for your wedding reception, and while most people choose a simple disc jockey, there are myriad options for wedding entertainment.
Wedding entertainment is hired to keep guests feeling the mood of celebration, to express the love and joy the couple is feeling and to share a connection with guests. Dancing is often part of the festivities, and wedding entertainment can vary greatly, depending on your budget, the mood you wish to evoke, and the time of day as well as the venue.
You will find you have many options for wedding entertainment. Here are some common choices to help you in choosing:
- As mentioned, a DJ (disc jockey) is the most common choice for a wedding reception. DJ’s can play a range of music to suit your needs, and can vary the music from classical or jazz during dinner to more rousing options later to encourage dancing.
- A live band is another common choice, and can bring a liveliness and spontaneity to the festivities. Bands can take requests and can alter the music flow to suit the guests and the flow of energy.
- You might consider some softer music for the ceremony itself or for a garden wedding, for instance. Many couples hire a classical harpist or a pianist to play during quieter times such as when guests are arriving and being seated.
- Specialty entertainment can be used to augment a reception. For example, some dancers or performers can be hired to entertain guests – ideas include belly dancers, magicians and singers.
