How to Find a Designer Wedding Dress
The list of designer wedding gown names grows every season, and this means your choice in beautifully designed dresses is ever-increasing.
Creating wedding dresses is a fun and exciting way for designers to show off their unique talents in extravagant ways, so within the wide variety of styles you should be able to find something that you love.
Many women dream of wearing a couture or designer wedding gown down the aisle, and simply don’t know where to start or if this option is affordable for them.
To start your search for a designer wedding dress, the following suggestions should help:
- The first obvious choice for designer wedding dresses would be wedding magazines, although they do not always mention the upper-end designers. They will, however, be a good source for ideas about what you like as far as styles and shapes, and also for local boutique contact information so that you can try and source the higher-end gowns in your area.
- Speaking of boutiques in your area, a good place to start would be to ask them if they either carry or can source the designer wedding gown of your choice. Even if they do not regularly carry the designer’s line, they may be able to order one for you in order to secure your business at their salon, which will likely include altering to fit. The more high-end stores will be more likely to accommodate special requests.
- Take a look online – search engines such as google will be helpful – in your quest to find a designer whose look you adore. Try celebrity wedding sites, and look through the various designer’s own sites to get a feel for their portfolios. Each designer will list contact information you can use to help you locate your perfect designer gown.
- Ebay and other auction or sale sites may prove very useful. Whether you know exactly what designer dress you want, or are willing to browse a little, try searching sites like ebay for designer wedding gowns. Sometimes you can even find a once-used and beautiful dress for a fraction of the original price – all it needs is a good dryclean. (TIP: You may even wish to sell your own designer wedding dress after your wedding day, especially if it was very expensive and you’d like to recoup a little of your investment. Some lucky girl may be looking everywhere for just your dress!)
- Big cities - If you live somewhere rural, your local access to designer wedding gowns – or designer anything! – may be severely limited. Try making a trip, or at least a few calls, to a large metropolis such as New York or Paris, where you are sure to find what you are looking for. If you are just making calls, the dress of your dreams can always be shipped to you and altered, if necessary, at a local boutique.
These ideas should help you get started. A little time and effort will pay off big time when you walk down the aisle in your picture-perfect designer wedding gown! Don’t forget to check out the valuable tips in our Wedding Guides – see sidebar for details. Happy wedding planning!
