Custom Wedding Dresses
If you’re getting married and want a truly unique gown for your special day, a custom wedding dress may be just the ticket.
Custom wedding gowns can be created to fulfill any vision a bride may have, from the simple and elegant to the most extravant styles.
There are many other reasons for having your wedding dress custom-made, as well, including fit issues (you don’t find the ‘off-the-rack’ dresses fit you properly or they don’t allow for the look you want to create) and quality issues.
As expensive as wedding dresses are, they are not always as creative as we might like, or they might not fulfill your vision, and a great way to have exactly what you want is by investing in a custom wedding dress. A custom-made wedding gown is a fabulous treat to yourself, and your imagination is the limit.
Following are some tips to help you in your quest for a perfect custom wedding gown:
- Find an excellent tailor, seamstress or dressmaker - For a special job such as this, any old alteration person will not do. You need to be sure that the person you choose has established a reputation for timely delivery, quality workmanship and for truly listening and meeting a bride’s expectations.
- Have a budget for your custom wedding gown and shop around - Prices can vary greatly, and if you have no idea of the value of the work, and/or have no budget in mind, you may be asking to get ripped off. Be clear about your expectations, and do enough homework that you know approximately how much your dream gown should cost to make.
- Gather pictures - One bride’s idea of ‘detailed,’ for instance, may be your idea of plain. Pictures really do speak a thousand words, and if you can put a collage of pictures together to illustrate exactly what you have in mind, you’ll save yourself and your dressmaker a lot of potential heartache, ensuring you receive the perfect dress you have in mind.
- Keep an eye on your measurements - Many brides plan to get in better shape for their weddings, and if you’re having a dress made to fit you perfectly, you cannot also be planning to lose 20 pounds and 3 inches, unless you keep your dressmaker in the loop. While you may be in tip-top shape come wedding day, it wouldn’t be any fun to find your wedding dress is far too big. The same goes, of course, for binge eating during your wedding planning, which can admittedly be a stressful time. A good idea is to have a final fitting a week or two before your wedding day, to ensure the dress is just perfect.
